This is the first of three Proficiency badge workshops which will assist the Scouts to achieve each of the three Proficiency badges. At the conclusion of the three workshops, the Scout has the opportunity to do the assessment for the Amateur Radio Foundation License. Successful achievement will entitle the Scout to wear the special Amateur Radio Badge on their uniform. The Amateur Radio Foundation assessment is a formal qualification issued by the ACMA.
Topics covered in this workshop will include basics of radio waves, how they travel and how the sun (space weather) can affect radio waves. There will be a little bit of theory however we have structured the workshop to include lots of practical experiments. Some of these include constructing antennas, exploring the radio frequency spectrum using different radios and learning the basics of radio direction finding.
